In 1978, Richard became the CEO of the International Division of Max Factor, a division of Norton Simon Inc. He subsequently led a number of privately held businesses until his retirement about six years ago.

He and his wife Susie were both raised on the Jersey Shore.

What motivates your desire to give back?

We are motivated to give back because of our desire to help others and strengthen health care in south Orange County.

Why are you supporting the medical center? 

Mission Hospital came to our attention when we made physician changes after our move to Laguna.

Why did you agree to join the Foundation board?

A foundation board member, Alex McKinnon, invited us to a hospital soiree at his home, and that sold us on the value of becoming more involved with the hospital. I joined the foundation board shortly after this gathering and feel it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’ve been able to understand the problems and opportunities facing hospital management and understand how my involvement can help the organization.
