Legacy of Compassion
Remembering two remarkable donors
Legacy donors play an important role in shaping the future at Providence Mission Hospital. We honor the memories of Carmen Oyharzabal and Lillian Savage, whose planned giving ensures that their compassion continues to benefit our community for generations.
Carmen Oyharzabal
Born into a pioneering family that migrated to San Juan Capistrano in the 1800s, Carmen Oyharzabal’s ancestors helped build the city. Embracing her heritage of service, Carmen became a nurse at Providence St. Joseph Hospital after training at the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange Motherhouse.
Carmen generously included Providence St. Joseph Hospital and Providence Mission Hospital in her living trust, ensuring her support would continue to benefit the hospitals she held dear. Carmen passed away in March 2024 at the age of 97, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to the well-being of others.
Lillian Savage
Born in the United States to English parents, Lillian Savage grew up in New York. Her niece Karen Savage remembers her as an independent spirit with a generous nature.
A lifelong philanthropist, Lillian was inspired to support Providence Mission Hospital when one of her physicians spoke at a hospital-sponsored seminar at her retirement community.
A woman of high standards, Lillian was pleased with the outstanding care she received at Providence Mission Hospital and made several gifts over the years. Her commitment culminated in a generous bequest to support women’s services, a particular philanthropic passion. Lillian passed away in January 2023 at the age of 96, but her generosity will continue to impact women in our community.
Their generosity lives on
As we remember Carmen and Lillian, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for their contributions, which will continue to foster hope and healing for every patient we are privileged to serve.
