On October 18th, 2021 our beloved Sister Martha Ann Fitzpatrick passed away in peace. Our entire Providence Mission family shares this tremendous loss together.

In her role as Vice President of Advocacy and Mission Formation, Sister Martha Ann had oversight of Community Benefits, Spiritual Care, Ethics, Formation and Advocacy. She served in that role beginning in 1994 when St. Joseph Health acquired Mission Hospital and she was asked to lead the transition from a doctor-owned hospital to a Catholic, faith-based ministry.

In 2005, the Providence Mission Hospital Foundation presented Sister Martha Ann with the Vision Award, for her long-time visionary role at the hospital and her example of living our values daily. The following year, the award was renamed in her honor.

After serving for more than 70 years as a Sister of St. Joseph of Orange and nearly 25 years as foundational member of the Hospital leadership team, Sister Martha Ann retired in 2019. Over the years, she has impacted the lives of thousands of community members, patients, and caregivers, and she will be missed by all.

While the funeral mass will be private due to COVID, an outdoor memorial service is being planned at Providence Mission Hospital. Details will be shared in coming days for anyone who wishes to attend.
