Meet Our New Chief Philanthropy Officer
Welcome Nicole Balsamo to the Providence Mission Hospital family
The Foundation began 2023 by announcing the appointment of Nicole Balsamo as chief philanthropy officer. With more than 15 years of fundraising experience at notable California nonprofits, Nicole brings a wealth of experience in her new role.
“Nicole has been a tremendous addition and is already making an incredible impact on the team,” stated Seth Teigen, chief executive. “A heart-centered leader with an outstanding track record, she has fit right into our mission-centered culture. Her wealth of experience will support our ministry by continuing to elevate the great work we do in our community.”
Prior to joining the Foundation, Nicole was the principal and founder of FreeBird Strategies, a consulting firm providing fundraising strategies for nonprofit CEOs. Previously, she served as vice president of development for Hoag Hospital Foundation, where she led a team of development professionals responsible for $133 million in annual productivity and the successful completion of a $760 million multiyear comprehensive campaign, surpassing its initial goal of $627 million. She has also held leadership roles at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, University of California, Irvine and UCLA.
“Her passion for philanthropy is infectious and has a proven ability to motivate teams and inspire others to get involved. A true community advocate, Nicole will lead the fundraising strategies for the services and programs at both Providence Mission Hospital campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach,” said Kenya Beckmann, chief philanthropy and health equity officer, Providence South Division.
A dedicated volunteer leader in her spare time, Nicole is a founding board member of Friends of El Faro, which provides resources to an orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. She also serves as an advisory board member for HoldYou Foundation, which provides financial support to families with children facing a medical crisis. Nicole holds a master’s degree in the psychology of leadership from Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. Residing in Laguna Niguel, Nicole shares a profound bond with the community as Providence Mission has been her family’s hospital of choice.
We are honored that Nicole has joined Providence Mission Hospital Foundation, and we look forward to the accomplishments we will achieve under her leadership. Please join us in welcoming Nicole to the Providence family!
