Congratulations to Matthew Kaplan, M.D.
2023 Philanthropy Physician Champion
Providence Mission Hospital’s medical director of emergency services, Matthew Kaplan, M.D., was one of eight clinicians across the Providence South Division to be recognized with the 2023 Philanthropy Physician Champion Award. As a leader in emergency medicine for over 20 years, he has been an essential partner in advancing patient care and creating a culture of philanthropy at Mission Hospital.
Dr. Kaplan, a steadfast partner to his foundation colleagues, demonstrates his passion for giving back with his actions. As co-chair of the emergency department expansion campaign, his leadership was instrumental in helping raise $3 million to increase the hospital’s trauma capacity by 30% by adding eight new patient rooms, an upgraded nurse’s station and additional storage for increased efficiency.
A Philanthropist Circle member, Dr. Kaplan was instrumental in inspiring all the emergency medicine group partners to become supporters of Providence Mission Hospital by taking their care beyond the bedside. He educates his colleagues on the power of philanthropy and facilitates opportunities to engage with donors. A frequent guest speaker at foundation events, Dr. Kaplan, can be counted on for his sponsorship and for inviting potential donors to join him.
“The foundation is proud to recognize Dr. Kaplan with this prestigious honor,” says Nicole Balsamo, chief philanthropy officer. “He’s a passionate leader and a true philanthropy ambassador with a deep understanding of the great impact donors can have on in our community. It’s a testament to how much he believes in our hospital, our mission and his dedication to caring for our community.”
